Geo-radar

Service detection, underground pipes

The location of underground services is increasingly a necessity demanded by professionals in the building sector, and often their own building plans do not reflect the necessary information of their location for various reasons (age, absence, lack of detail). The GPR or Geo-radar is the most successful, modern, non-intrusive method for the location of these services; together with other techniques such as radio-detection it creates an increasingly common tool in the redesign of any civil works involving a subsoil alteration.

In countries like U.S.A, Canada, France or U.K. its use is compulsory by law before any civil engineering work is undertaken, which demonstrates clearly its value. In some Spanish cities its use is also becoming compulsory, possibly due to many of its advantages both for public administration as well as for the companies carrying out the work. Among the most outstanding advantages of the method we can identify the following:

  • Risk reduction of work and public accidents.
  • Minimalising the cost of ditch digging.
  • Penalty reduction by the administration and other affected companies.
  • Advice on the optimal route for trenching, drilling and sounding.
